1/6: Cassavettes Revisited: “Husbands” at the Public

Plus the Sweetback Sisters’ country harmonies and Bethenny Frankel signs her book

THE COMPANY OF MEN: Based on John Cassavetes' 1970s film of the same name, the play “Husbands” depicts three men -- shaken up by the death of their friend and by their own imminent approach into middle age -- who go into freefall in a four-day post-funeral bender. The company is Doris Mirescu’s NYC-based Dangerous Ground, and “Husbands” is at the Public Theater as part of the Under the Radar Festival – kicking ff today through January 17 -- presenting 20 new theater productions from around the world. 7PM, additional times.

COUNTRY-STYLE: Don’t miss a rare opportunity to catch the Sweetback Sisters live at the Living Room: Zara Bode and Emily Miller layer gorgeous girl-on-girl harmonies over swell honky-tonk melodies – the kind that make Loretta Lynn fans weep – and you just know you’re in for some hot and/or mournful fiddle. Trust us: These guys are brilliant. 8PM.

LITE FARE: Bethenny Frankel is, as you know, a Real Housewife of New York. As such, she knows things. Important things. Like, say, how to be naturally thin (also the title of her first book, coincidentally). She packs 264 pages full of this intel into “The Skinnygirl Dish: Easy Recipes for Your Naturally Thin Life”, just out from Fireside (core message: don’t eat if you’re not hungry), and will be signing copies of the cookbook-cum-self-help tome at the Columbus Circle Borders at 7PM.
