‘Pass Over' to Open Month Before Other Broadway Shows — Full List of Reopening Dates

Broadway icons “Hamilton,” “Chicago,” “Wicked” and “The Lion King” have all announced they will reopen Sept. 14.

Broadway will fully reopen its doors this September, welcoming theater-goers from the city and all over the world once again for the first time in 18 months as New York charges forward in its unprecedented pandemic recovery.

Tickets will be made available at 100% theater capacity and went on sale in early May; the first show back starts Aug.4. Productions, theaters and attendees will be subject to the state's health guidance, but that is subject to change as New York's COVID situation -- and that of the country -- improves.

But the question is -- which shows will actually open? And when?

This list will be updated as more shows announce their opening plans:

  • Broadway icons "Hamilton," "Chicago," "Wicked" and "The Lion King" have all announced they will reopen Sept. 14.; tickets for those shows go on sale May 11
  • "Moulin Rouge!" makes its return at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on Sept. 24
  • Seven-time Tony Award winner "The Phantom of the Opera" will resume shows at its Majestic Theater starting Oct. 22, with tickets going on sale starting May 7
  • "Aladdin" will make its post-pandemic debut on Sept. 28 at the New Amsterdam Theatre, according to the show's official website
  • "Come From Away," the true story of the small town that welcomed the world in the week following the 9/11 terror attacks, plans to return with a 7 p.m. Sept. 21 show at the Gerald Schoenfield Theatre
  • "Jersey Boys," the behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, will return to the stage at NYC's New World Stages on Nov. 15; tickets are on sale now
  • "Jagged Little Pill," a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s Grammy Award-winning album, will open its first show on Sept. 7 at Broadhurst Theatre
  • "Ain't Too Proud," a musical about The Temptations, will also return on Sept. 7 at Imperial Theatre
  • "Diana the Musical," which tells the story of Princess Diana, will reopen on Dec. 1
  • "West Side Story," hailed as an “indisputable, boundary-busting masterpiece” by The New York Times, also has tickets available, though the first show date isn't clear
  • Tickets for "SIX," a musical about the six wives of Henry VIII, will go on sale May 6 for shows starting Sept. 17 at the Brooks Atkinson Theater, with an official opening night of Oct. 3.
  • "Mrs. Doubtfire" opens in previews on Oct. 21 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, with opening night on Dec. 5.
  • "Tina - The Tina Turner Musical" reopens Oct. 8 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
  • "MJ," the musical that features over two dozen of Michael Jackson's greatest hits, is set to return on Dec. 6.
  • Producers of "Hadestown" announced the show will return Sept. 2; tickets for the Tony-award winning show go on sale on June 11.
  • "Pass Over" is set to be the first show to open back up, starting previews on Aug. 4 at the August Wilson Theatre — nearly a full month before any other show (the official starting date for the show is Sept. 12); tickets go on sale June 4 for shows through Oct. 10.
