Heather Walker is a two-time Emmy® nominated journalist who joined NBC 6 in December 2021. She currently anchors the station’s weekend morning newscasts, NBC 6 News Today at 6 am and 8:30 am on Saturdays and NBC 6 News Today at 7 am and 9 am on Sundays, from the station’s Miramar-based studios. She is also a weekday investigative reporter.
Before joining NBC 6, Walker worked as an investigative reporter and anchor of the #1 rated newscast for WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Reporting on everything from the Flint water crisis to the Larry Nassar case. While at WOOD-TV, Walker received two Emmy® nominations for her reporting.
Walker began her career at KIMA-TV and radio station KDBL in Yakima, Washington. During her two years in Yakima, one of her investigations led to the resignation of the gang task force leader in the city’s police department. During her time in Yakima, Walker received a 2012 Investigative Reporting Award from the Society of Professional Journalists.
As a journalist, Walker loves meeting new people and telling their stories. Most of her stories aim to give a voice to those who feel they aren’t being heard. She also believes that journalism has the power to make positive impacts in a community and that good journalism is about being a community watchdog.
Walker was born in Toledo, Ohio and graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism from Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio. Walker says she is quite happy to trade snow for sunshine and enjoys days at the beach.
Walker considers herself a foodie and enjoys exploring South Florida’s food scene. She also loves to travel and explore different parts of the world.
