Biden's Niece in Court, Accused of Taking Swing at Cop

A court complaint says a niece of Vice President Joe Biden hit a police officer in the chest and resisted being put in a holding cell during her New York City arrest last month.

Caroline Biden did not enter a plea Tuesday at her first court date in the misdemeanor case.

The charges include resisting arrest.

The complaint says the 26-year-old clashed with officers Sept. 17 after her roommate made a report about a rent dispute.

Defense lawyer Ira London says he and prosecutors are in talks about possibly resolving the case.

The Manhattan district attorney's office declined to comment.

Biden's next court date is Dec. 17.

The vice president's office declined to comment on the case.

His brother James Biden is Caroline Biden's father.
