A woman was struck and killed by a flatbed truck that dragged her for several blocks on Sixth Avenue during the morning rush Monday, according to eyewitness accounts.
The truck dragged the woman along Sixth Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. as horrified onlookers screamed for the driver to stop.
"He clipped over here and maybe she got caught under…but he dragged her," said one witness who could not hold back his tears. "He dragged her from here all the way to here."
The woman, described by witnesses as being in her 50s, was struck by a flatbed making a right turn to head north on Sixth Avenue from Houston Street, according to a crossing guard on the scene. The truck iwas parked on Sixth Avenue near Carmine Street as police investigate the deadly accident.
The women's sunglasses, an adult scooter and a single flip-flop could be seen strewn across Sixth Avenue.
The investigation is ongoing. The driver was not ticketed. The truck driver screamed "Oh my God! What did I do?" when he learned what had happened, according to a witness.
