A deadly high-rise fire claimed the life of a woman in the Bronx Saturday morning.
Firefighters were on the scene at 2111 Southern Boulevard trying to quell the fire at 9:26 a.m., fire officials said. The fire engulfed an apartment on the 11th floor of the 31-story high-rise tower near East 180th Street
A 52-year-old woman was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital with critical injuries, where she was pronounced dead on arrival, police said. The victim was discovered inside a bedroom of the 11th floor apartment.
There are no other victims at this time. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
Authorities said fire marshals will determine the cause of the fire.
