Staten Islanders say the borough stinks -- and officials aren't sure why.
The Advance reports that dozens of readers from across the island called into the newspaper Friday morning to report the rotten stench.
"It smelled like crabs and tuna," Danielle Boncini told the Advance.
She added, "I felt like I was in a crabbing boat."
The paper, hoping to sniff out a source of the stink, called authorities. Officials with the FDNY, NYPD and Sanitation Department weren't able to identify the noxious odor.
The Advance reported the smell was first reported along the north shore, but it spread throughout the island later in the morning.
It's not clear how long the odor persisted, or if the cause was ever discovered.
