Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is done talking about the picture of a crotch tweeted from his Twitter account, he told reporters in the Capitol Tuesday afternoon.
The lawmaker, under fire for a photo of bulging underwear that appeared in his Twitter feed, flatly said he will not answer any questions about the incident, which he claims was the work of a hacker.
When asked if he was in touch with law enforcement, he said “we put out a statement about that yesterday.” That statement, though, did not indicate whether Weiner’s office contacted Capitol Police, but said he had retained an attorney. A spokesman for the Capitol Police said there is no pending investigation.
“I’m not going to allow this to be what I talk about all week,” Weiner told a few reporters before entering a House Democratic Caucus meeting in the Capitol. “That’s the idea of a distraction. I’m not going to let it be successful.”
In an interview Tuesday with CNN reporters that turned angry, Weiner repeatedly declined to answer whether he sent the photo and why he hasn’t contacted authorities.
The Daily Caller, a conservative leaning news outlet, reported that Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) is using the incident to call for an investigation of hacking.
Asked about the investigation, Weiner said he doesn’t “respond to distractions, particularly ones named Cliff Stearns.”
