A truck burst into flames on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Tuesday evening, causing a traffic backup as firefighters responded.
The box truck caught fire on the upper level of the Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge at about 7:30 p.m., according to the FDNY.
The driver and passenger were able to get out without injuries, authorities said. Traffic was delayed about a half-hour as firefighters put out the blaze.
Authorities are investigating whether an overheated engine sparked the fire.
The Verrazano-Narrows Bridge connects Brooklyn and Staten Island, and is a major link in the interstate highway system.
