It’s been an absolute mess crossing the Hudson River out of Manhattan Thursday evening after a NJ Transit bus caught fire.
The bus fire was on the New Jersey-side of the Lincoln Tunnel around 4 p.m. But traffic really became a nightmare more than an hour later as workers cleaned up a fuel spill left behind by the bus.
All lanes had been shut down on outbound New Jersey Route 495 by 5:30 p.m., snarling traffic and pushing delays towards 2 hours. Bumper-to-bumper traffic was visible on the Manhattan side of the Lincoln Tunnel into North Bergen.
Those looking for alternate routes at the Holland Tunnel were being hit with more than 45-minute delays at 5:30 because of a disabled vehicle in the north tube.
There were also delays on the northbound West Side Highway, from the West 60s all the way up to the George Washington Bridge.
