An SUV swerved onto a sidewalk, striking and killing a woman and injuring a man and another female pedestrian Sunday in Fort Greene, police said.
The couple were holding hands and strolling along the sidewalk when they were struck by the SUV, which had swerved to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of it, authorities said.
The 30-year-old woman, identified as Victoria Nicodemus, of Brooklyn, was taken to Brooklyn Hospital Center after the 5:15 p.m. accident at the intersection of South Portland Avenue and Fulton Street. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The 37-year-old man she was with sustained a leg injury and was taken to the same hospital in stable condition, police said.
A 75-year-old woman who was also hit was hospitalized in stable condition as well.
The driver was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.
