A smoke condition at the Rockefeller Center subway station delayed trains on the B/D/F/M line during the evening rush.
Cellphone video taken by an NBC 4 New York producer showed large purple and red sparks erupting from underneath the downtown platform. Thick smoke wafted up from the tracks and up the staircase.
It wasn't immediately clear what set off the sparks; a message was left with the MTA.
Trains have since resumed with residual delays.
