Pennsylvania Scrap Yard Fire Blows Smoke as Far as New York City

Firefighters have gotten the upper hand on a stubborn scrap yard fire in Pennsylvania that carried smoke into New Jersey and toward New York City.

The fire that broke out at Sims Metal Management in Morrisville was placed under control early Thursday. It erupted around 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Firefighters brought in tanker trucks for water and used heavy equipment to move the scrap to get access to the flames.

There are no reports of injuries. The cause is under investigation.

Just before 7 a.m. Thursday, New York City's official emergency management system issued a notice that residents may see or smell smoke because of the fire.
