A two-car accident in Brooklyn sent at least one of the vehicles careening into pedestrians Wednesday, fatally pinning a woman on the street under the car, authorities say.
A car driven by a 29-year-old woman was turning onto Cozine Avenue from Pennsylvania Avenue in East New York at about 10:30 a.m. when it lost control and hit another car, which in turn hit a man and pinned a woman under the car, police said.
The 52-year-old woman sustained head and body trauma. She was taken to Brookdale Hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead. The 59-year-old man was taken to the same hospital in serious condition and is now stable, police said.
People around the intersection jumped in to try and help.
"I yelled, 'Somebody call 911,' and I ran over with another guy and started yelling at people to help us out," said Jorge Cartagenas, who was on a break from cooking at a corner deli when he saw the accident.
A worker at a local auto shop ran over with a car jack to lift the car.
Cartagenas said he could tell the woman, who had just been inside the deli using the ATM, was breathing.

"She seemed like she was coming in and out," he said.
First responders quickly arrived and blocked off the intersection.
"My blood run cold because I was surprised," said Cartagenas. "I never seen anything like this."
Four occupants in one of the vehicles involved in the collision had minor injuries and were taken to area hospitals as well, authorities said.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Police say the driver remained on scene and no arrests have been made.
