Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by 2 Cars on Long Island: Police

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by two cars on Long Island Monday, according to police.

John Santopolo, 65, was crossing the intersection at Peninsula Boulevard and South Franklin Avenue in Hempstead when he was struck by a 2011 Honda Crossover, police said.

Santopolo was thrown onto the roadway and struck a second time by another vehicle that left the scene, authorities said. He was transported to a local hospital with serious head and internal injuries, and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Honda tested negative for alcohol use and the Honda was impounded for brake and safety tests, police said.
