A cyclist was critically injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Harlem Wednesday night, police say.
The victim was near a bus stop crossing West 145th Street by Malcolm X Boulevard just before 10 p.m. when he was hit by a car, sending him flying several feet into the air and into the path of another car, the NYPD said.
Witnesses said the driver was speeding down West 145th Street and didn't slow down after hitting the victim.
“We heard it, we heard like a boom,” witness Sam Hassan said.
He said workers and customers in the deli nearby said they recognized the victim and that he was a regular there.
The unidentified victim was taken to Harlem Hospital where he is listed in critical condition after undergoing several rounds of surgery overnight.
Police are still searching for the driver, who they say was driving a red sedan.
