Oil Tanker Flips on Long Island, Igniting Massive Fire

A truck carrying 3,700 gallons of heating oil overturned and ignited a massive fire after it collided with two other vehicles on a Long Island road Saturday, police said.

The crash on Route 25 in in Lake Grove around 6 a.m. caused the tanker to overturn, police said. Firefighters battled the resulting blaze that engulfed the tanker and a pickup truck.

Video of the scene shows a massive fire with flames reaching up to electrical wires overhead. Some of the burning wires fell to the ground.

Police could not immediately say what caused the accident, but they said no one was injured.

Route 25 was closed in both directions between Wood Road and Hawkins Road for most of the day, Suffolk County police said. An eastbound lane was reopened shortly after 3 p.m.
