A family is grieving after a 26-year-old Newark Airport worker was gunned down in downtown Newark Tuesday night.
Prosecutors said a passerby found Bruce Santos unresponsive near Broad and Camp streets by Lincoln Park at about 10 p.m. Santos was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"He's a real good boy. All he do is work, work, work," said his father, who asked to remain anonymous. "He got a second job to help us with the bills."
Santos was the oldest of three brothers, and was a quiet man who worked hard and wrote poetry, his father said.
"To take him out and do that thing, you don't know how much that bothers me," Santos' father said as he cried.
A preliminary investigation revealed Santos was coming home from work at the airport. Police believe he may have been the victim of a robbery attempt.
The investigation is ongoing.
