A college student is asking for help to find a necklace containing the ashes of her grandmother that was stolen from her home in Buffalo.

University of Buffalo student Haley Lang says her grandmother died last year, and her mother got her the necklace for Christmas. Now it feels like a piece of her is gone.

In a Facebook post, Lang wrote  someone broke into her home last week and stole "purses, money, headphones" and more from her and her roommates -- "but out of everything taken the most important thing was this."

She says everything can be replaced except the necklace, and she has posted pictures online seeking its return.

"I feel distraught that this is now in someone else's possession and would do anything to get it back," she wrote, adding, "I am so sorry that this wasn't on me today, Grandma. I would do anything to start this day over."

Lang says she doesn't care about punishing the thieves; she just wants her necklace back.
