A seven-year NYPD veteran faces aggravated sexual assault charges for allegedly pushing a drunk woman to a bed in an Atlantic City, New Jersey, hotel room and holding her there while he had sex with her, according to a criminal complaint.
Andrei Torres, 32, turned himself in to authorities Wednesday following a six-month investigation into the April 24 assault at the Taj Mahal Hotel and Casino.
A New York State Police officer, 35-year-old Devon Thomas, also faces aggravated assault charges in the attack on the 34-year-old New York woman, but the complaint against him wasn't immediately available. He was arrested Tuesday.
Both waived their rights to extradition hearings.
Thomas' lawyer Joseph Levine said his client, who has worked with the New York State Police for three years, did not engage in criminal wrongdoing.
Torres' lawyer John Zarych called the charges "a mistake."
