The former boyfriend of the woman who was shot to death in a Brooklyn Heights park where she worked has been taken into custody, police said.
The man was detained by police at his home in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon in connection to the shooting death of 24-year-old Michelle Marks of Crown Heights. Marks was found dead with a gunshot wound to her head on a sidewalk in Brooklyn Bridge Park at about 9:30 p.m. on Monday.
Police sources tell NBC 4 New York that the ex-boyfriend, a convicted sex offender, is expected to be charged in the shooting.
Marks' mother, Pauline Marks, told NBC 4 New York that her daughter was headed home when she was killed. She said her daughter's ex-boyfriend harassed her after their break-up and attacked her in their apartment hallway over the weekend. Pauline Marks said her daughter was expected to file an order of protection against him Monday but went to work at Pier 6 instead.
At work, someone told Marks that her ex-boyfriend was there with a gun, according to her mother. She said her daughter texted a friend to call police.
Marks then left work and was shot while walking to the bus, her mother said. Sources said that the woman was talking with her current boyfriend about the ex and that the call suddenly dropped.
Pauline Marks had a message for her daughter's killer.

"You left a hurting family but you're going to reap what you sow," she said. "And I pray for you that God will have mercy on you but you're not going to get away."
Police sources said that there had been seven domestic violence-related calls involving Marks and her ex-boyfriend dating back to 2013. She wasn't listed as the victim in each of the cases, sources said.
