Real estate brokers are marketing Trump Tower as the “most secure building in Manhattan,” a place where wealthy buyers can enjoy the “new amenity” of a round-the-clock Secret Service detail, according to reports.
Ever since Donald Trump was elected, the Secret Service has kept a heavy presence at the Fifth Avenue tower, a skyscraper where Trump has lived and worked for years.
Real estate agency Douglas Elliman reportedly took notice. Less than a week after the Nov. 8 election, the firm sent out an email advertising a $2.1 million condo on the 31st floor with the subject “Fifth Avenue Buyers Interested in Secret Service Protection?”
The 1,052-square-foot, one-bedroom condo was trumpeted as “The Best Value in the Most Secure Building in Manhattan.”
“The New Aminity [sic] – The United States Secret Service,” the ad read, according to Politico.
In a down market where properties are plentiful, Secret Service protection is a unique feature well-to-do buyers are unlikely to find elsewhere.
Local
Trump Tower, which is managed by Trump Corporation, became a hot location for tourists during Trump’s campaign and has only become more popular since Trump was elected president. But heightened security around the tower has also had a negative impact on businesses and residents of Fifth Avenue.
As the stretch of Fifth Avenue in front of the tower transformed into a White House-level security zone, neighbors like jeweler Tiffany and Co. have warned of lower profits.
Mayor de Blasio said Monday that he was asking the federal government for $35 million to cover the $500,000 cost of security for Trump each day. The security includes an NYPD detail at Trump Tower between Nov. 8 and Jan. 20.
Trump said he plans to move into the White House but that his wife Melania and son Barron will stay in Manhattan, at least until the 10-year-old finishes school this year.
Politico said Douglas Elliman and a Trump spokesperson declined to comment.
