Free Wi-Fi and charging stations are coming to more New York City parks.
The city and AT&T announced on Tuesday it was adding Wi-Fi hot spots and solar-powered mobile device charging stations to dozens of parks in all five of the city’s boroughs. The move marks a major expansion of a program to bring Wi-Fi to city parks.
“Through amenities like Wi-Fi and charging stations in parks, we help increase technological access, while gathering insights into how our visitors engage our green spaces; insights that strengthen our strategic approach to building a better park system for the future,” said New York City Parks commissioner Mitchell J. Silver.
Since the program was launched, more than 8.6 million users have connected to free Wi-Fi in city parks.
Solar charging units have been in the city since 2013, when AT&T brought them in the wake of Sandy.
