NY to Invest $3M on Community Gardens in Brooklyn

New York state will spend $3.1 million on community gardens in Brooklyn.

The administration of Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the funding decision on Thursday. Eight existing community gardens will be renovated and redeveloped with the addition of new raised beds, shade and paving, fencing or pathways. Another 14 gardens will have new water connections added. The work is expected to be completed by the fall of 2019.

The money is a small part of a $1.4 billion state plan to invest in health care, housing, open space and quality of life in the central part of the borough.

Cuomo, a Democrat, says community gardens provide important opportunities for city residents to enjoy the outdoors.
