A 66-year-old woman was arrested early Sunday in connection with a hit-and-run accident on Long Island that left one person dead, police said.
An unidentified male was crossing Sunrise Highway, west of Buffalo Avenue, in Freeport around 11 p.m. when he was hit by a Nissan Altima traveling eastbound, according to police. Police say Stephanie Beeker was behind the wheel and kept driving after the crash.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m. by emergency room staff. His shoe could be seen lying on the road as detectives investigated the hit-and-run.
Beeker was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning. She's charged with leaving the scene of an accident and was expected to be arraigned Sunday in Hempstead.
