Several people were injured in a ride at the Mountain Creek Water Park in Vernon, N.J. late Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman for the park said.
Spokesman Bill Benneyan said about a half-dozen circular tubes bunched up in the middle of a water ride called The Gauley at around 4:15 p.m., backing up a large section of standing water.
Several tubes collided, causing minor injuries to two adults and three younger people. All of the ride passengers were treated on the scene, and sought further treatment on their own.
"Our staff responded in force," said Benneyan, suggesting that may have made the incident seem more serious than it was.
The ride has been closed down while state officials evaluate it. The rest of the park remains open.
