Authorities are investigating how a construction worker fell to his death in an elevator shaft in Westchester County.
The man suffered blunt force injuries and fractures after falling down the shaft inside a Gramatan Avenue building in Mount Vernon Wednesday.
According to the Journal News, he was putting away his tools when he broke through a screen covering the shaft.
Mayor Ernie Davis says the 28-year-old fell several floors before landing on the elevator car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name wasn't immediately released.
The five-story building is near City Hall and the police department headquarters.
