Two people were hurt and at least one vehicle was damaged after a manhole exploded in midtown Monday morning, officials say.
Firefighters say they got a call about the blast at East 44th Street and Lexington Avenue at about 6:30 a.m.
They found two people with trauma when they arrived and both victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital Center. Their conditions weren't immediately available.
A witness told NBC 4 New York the manhole cover blew up and hit a taxi. The witness said the two people injured were the cab's driver and a passenger.
