Man Pulls Himself to Safety After Falling Onto Subway Tracks: Report

A man who fell from a crowded subway platform onto the tracks below was able to pull himself up to safety seconds before the train pulled into the station, the New York Post reports.

The newspaper reports the unidentified man was waiting for an uptown 6 train at the 86th Street Station on the Upper East Side at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday when he tripped and fell onto the tracks.

Witnesses say the man was able to quickly hoist himself back up as the train was coming into the station.

“He freaked out. He actually got up and had the wherewithal to get off the tracks. He got back up really quickly,” witness Geoffrey Croft tells the Post.

Other commuters reportedly alerted the conductor, who stopped the train.

The victim, who suffered lacerations and bruises to the head, was treated by paramedics who arrived on scene, the Post reported.
