A man died in a fire at the Sayonara Motel on Long Island early Sunday, police said.
Kevin Furey, 56, was staying in a room on the second floor of the motel in North Amityville when he was overcome by the blaze. The fire started in a different room on the floor, and investigators said it didn't appear to be suspicious.
The motel manager called 911 shortly after 5:30 a.m., and first responders brought Furey to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, where doctors pronounced him dead, according to police.
Six people who were living in the motel escaped the fire and were staying at a residence across the street from the motel.
