The New York City Health Department has a bedbug problem at its own headquarters, according to a published report.
The Daily News says an email went out to employees Thursday night notifying them that a colony of the bloodsucking pests had been found on the 11th floor of the Long Island City building.
"Although in the past we have found individual bed bugs, we have for the first time in the past week found a group of bed bugs living in one area of the 11th floor of the building," the message said, according to the News.
Employees said it has been the first official acknowledgment of a problem that was known for weeks.
Workers were told to bag their belongings. The area was being vacuumed, steam-cleaned and sprayed with pesticide, the News said.
