Five people were hurt when a car carrying a newborn baby got cut off by another vehicle in Harlem and veered onto the sidewalk Friday evening, authorities say.
The FDNY said the vehicle went up onto the sidewalk at 145th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. Witnesses said they saw one woman on the sidewalk get hit.
"I ran and got the lady and pulled her out of the way. I put the pocketbook under her head and told her, 'Don't move,'" said one witness.
Authorities haven't released details in the crash, but witnesses said two parents and their newborn were in a black sedan, and they were hit by a burgundy van, which sent their car onto the sidewalk.
The car ended up against a building, blocking the door to a deli.
Bystanders rushed to help the father rescue his days-old newborn from the smoking car.
"The baby was in there, in the car seat, everybody trying to get him out," said Victor Nieves. "The seatbelt got stuck, everybody was screaming. It was just crazy."

Three people were taken to Harlem Hospital in serious but stable condition, officials said. Two others were treated for minor injuries. It's not clear which of the injured were pedestrians or occupants of the vehicles.
