A fire erupted in a Westchester County firehouse Monday, injuring one firefighter and drawing more than 80 firefighters from 17 other departments around the area to fight the blaze.
Two people were inside the Goldens Bridge firehouse on Waccabuc Road when the blaze broke out. The hurt firefighter had minor smoke inhalation injuries, officials said.
Ed Brancati, chairman of the Goldens Bridge Board of Fire Commissioners, was working out in the gym when he smelled smoke and saw an orange glow, just before a small explosion rattled the building.
A rescue truck and two utility trucks were damaged, but rescuers were able to salvage other trucks.
About 100 firefighters volunteer at the firehouse. Officials said nearby fire companies will take their calls for now.
Police said the cause appeared to be accidental, originating from an electrical connection to a fire truck parked in the firehouse.
