A three-alarm fire at a plant nursery in Westchester County Sunday night decimated the main building, and authorities are investigating whether propane may have fueled the flames, fire officials said.
About 50 firefighters from Greenburgh, Hartsdale, Fairview, Eastchester, Yonkers and White Plains responded to the 9 p.m. fire at the Sprainbrook Nursery in Scarsdale after first responders found the building fully engulfed in flames.
It took them around four hours to get it under control, authorities said.
The nursery's main building was turned to rubble, authorities said. No injuries were reported and no other buildings were affected.
Fire officials told NBC 4 New York said it appeared a propane tank blew up, sparking the fire, but arson squad investigators are continuing to look into how it happened.
Last year, a propane-fueled fire destroyed a rear building on the property but the main structure was left intact. No one was injured in that fire.
The owner of the property said he wasn't sure he would ever reopen for business.
