New Yorkers are learning they may have to wait even longer for MTA projects like the Second Avenue subway to open for business and relieve overcrowding on the Lexington line.
At a hearing at MTA offices Monday, representatives from the federal government predicted the new line would not open until February 2018, though the MTA continues to say it will open by the end of 2016. The cost for the new line will total $5.5 billion.
The MTA says the East Side Access project, the nation's largest rail project, which will give LIRR customers a shorter commute to Grand Central, will open in 2022, the though federal government says at this point that’s uncertain. The cost for the East Side Access project is expected to be $10.8 billion.
Many riders who've endured delays say they are tired of waiting.
"It's been a very long haul, we've been through everything,” said Upper East Side resident Robin Seclimis. “I think they want to make it happen but I don't think it's going to."
