Two FBI agents will assist Suffolk County police in their five-year-old investigation into 10 sets of human remains found along Gilgo Beach and Ocean Parkway.
Other bureau staff will provide technical assistance.
Suffolk Deputy Police Commissioner Tim Sini says the FBI also will again provide a behavioral science team to do a full profile of the killer or killers.
Newsday says Sini declined to provide details about the investigation, saying the department didn't want to compromise it. Five of the 10 victims have yet to be identified.
Sini says officials met at FBI's Long Island headquarters this week to work out their partnership. Suffolk officials first announced that the FBI would be joining the probe last month.
A FBI spokeswoman says she couldn't confirm that the meeting took place.
