Police have arrested a suspect in the attack on a woman who was pushed into her East Village apartment and raped early Monday.
The woman, 22, told police she was walking into her apartment near East Seventh Street about 4:15 a.m. when the attacker shoved her inside and raped her, the NYPD says.
Police say he did not know the victim.
After being questioned in the attack, 32-year-old Fermin Flores of Washington Heights was arrested on charges of rape, burglary, criminal sex act and strangulation, police said.
Law enforcement sources told NBC 4 New York Flores did not make incriminating statements during questioning but the victim was able to identify him as her attacker.
He declined to comment to reporters after he was processed at the police station Tuesday night.
Flores has no prior criminal history, according to sources. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney.
