Authorities are investigating after a dump truck struck and killed an elderly woman in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn Wednesday afternoon.
Police say the truck was stopped at a light on Broadway and Gates Avenue around 3:30 p.m. when the signal turned green.
The truck driver accelerated, going east on Broadway, at the same time the victim, 82-year-old Ora Walker, started crossing the road, police said.
The woman was struck by the truck and emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. The truck driver, who police identified as a 40-year-old man, stayed at the scene.
Phil Carucci said he works nearby and ran out into the street when he heard screaming. He saw an older woman's body underneath the truck.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
