A man walking his dog along the foot path of Inwood Hill Park discovered a badly decomposing body Monday morning, law enforcement sources said.
The man stumbled across the human remains in a wooded area near the foot path by Dyckman Street and Henry Hudson Parkway just after 8 a.m.
Police say the remains belong to a man believed to be about 50 to 60 years old.
The medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
