A mother was killed and her young son injured when she lost control of her vehicle in Orange County Friday, and police say it may have been the result of a road rage incident.
State Police say the 27-year-old mother, identified as Tiffany Lesane of Middletown, became involved in some sort of altercation with another driver beginning on Dolson Avenue in Middletown.
The two vehicles traveled on Dolson for more than a mile before they went on to Interstate 84 eastbound, where they went on for about another mile, according to state police investigator Patrick Beyea. Lesane then lost control of her Ford Focus and the vehicle flipped at least twice before coming to a rest on the median near exit 4 in Wallkill, about two hours north of New York City.
The other driver fled the scene. Police are searching for a light blue vehicle.
"There was no contact between the vehicles but it appears to be some sort of road rage incident based on what witnesses are telling us," said Beyea.
"We're asking the public if they saw anything or remember anything related to this incident to please call the state police."
Lesane's 9-year-old son sustained head injuries and is being observed at the hospital, authorities say. He's expected to be OK.
