Couple Adopts Mars the Stowaway Cat

A cat rescued from the engine of a pickup truck after a 28-mile ride from Pennsylvania to New Jersey has a new home.

The orange and white feline was adopted Sunday by Jennifer Blunts and her boyfriend, John Tegethoff, of Kunkletown, Pa.

The adoption ends a tale that began earlier this month, when the cat crawled into a pickup's engine compartment. Not knowing the cat was there, the driver traveled from East Stroudsburg, Pa., to the Mars Chocolate North America plant in Hackettstown, N.J.

Employees there heard the cat's meows and called police. The cat was freed with the help of the town's public works department and Mars employees.

The cat, who was not hurt, was dubbed Mars, in honor of where it was found.
