The Coast Guard in New York says it's launched an air and water search for a container ship worker who was reported missing Tuesday morning.
The worker was last seen at 11 p.m. Monday as the vessel was passing the Bayonne Bridge, according to authorities. He failed to report to work Tuesday morning, and after a "thorough" search of the ship, the crew contacted the Coast Guard.
The crew fears the worker may have fallen off the ship, the Coast Guard said.
The container ship was leaving Port Newark and headed to a southern port.
The Coast Guard is searching an area of 60 nautical miles from the New York Harbor to Ocean City, New Jersey.
The worker has not been identified.
