A 10-year-old Brooklyn boy who was reported missing after he wandered off while visiting his grandparents in the Hudson Valley village of Kiryas Joel Sunday evening has been found safe, state police said.
State troopers, K-9 units and local volunteers fanned out to search the woods and nearby lakes for Shimon Zorger after he wandered away from his father, who had accompanied him on the trip to see his grandparents, officials said.
Police say a state trooper found him at a local school Monday morning, more than 12 hours after he was last seen.
The boy is said to be in good health, but is being taken to a local hospital for evaluation as a precaution, authorities said. Officials had said Zorger, who has special needs, had a history of wandering off.
The boy's parents told NBC 4 New York they recently ordered a tracking device for him to wear, but it hasn't arrived yet.
