A 3-year-old girl fell out the window of third-story apartment in Brooklyn Wednesday evening, authorities say, sending her mother into hysterics and shocking neighbors, according to witnesses.
Police said it appears the girl managed to slip under the window guards and push through the window screen of her family's apartment at 902 44th St. in Fort Hamilton at about 7 p.m., tumbling more than 30 feet to the ground.
Neighbors said they heard the girl's mother screaming in the courtyard of the building.
"She was hysterical, she kept saying, 'My baby, my baby,'" said neighbor Marilyn Velez, who rushed down when she heard the mother wailing.
Velez said the girl appeared unresponsive on the ground by the time she got downstairs, while another neighbor, Rebecca Arce, said she saw the girl seizing after she fell.
The mother was "beyond herself," according to Arce, rolling around on the ground and screaming.
"She was terrified for the child, obviously," said neighbor Evelyn Toro.

Velez said, "We were all startled and in shock ourselves."
Neighbors said the family -- a mother and a father, and three children -- were relatively new to the building, typically filled with longtime residents.
Cellphone video of the scene taken by a neighbor showed paramedics administering CPR on the girl before taking her into the ambulance.
The child was taken to Lutheran Hospital and was initially listed in serious but stable condition, according to the FDNY.
