A car barreled into a supermarket in the Flushing section of Queens Tuesday evening, injuring five people, one of them seriously, authorities say.
Authorities say an out-of-control white Mercedes SUV driven by a 72-year-old woman flew out of the parking lot and into the packed Pathmark supermarket on Farrington Street just before 6:30 p.m., right into the produce section.
Witnesses said they heard what sounded like an explosion before they realized a car had crashed into the store.
"Sounded nothing like a car," said shopper Albert Graziosa. "I thought it was over, thought the whole place was going to explode."
Another witness said, "I saw it, then I heard it. Windows came out."
She said she narrowly missed being hit by the car.
"If I hadn't stopped to talked to someone I knew, I would have been walking the car came through," she said.

Juan Maldonado of the city's Office of Emergency Management said at the scene that the injured people were taken to the hospital.
The city has issued a vacate order for the building as a precaution, but OEM officials said the supermarket is in no apparent risk of further damage or collapse.
The driver was taken to Booth Memorial Hospital for treatment, but showed no signs of injuries.
A cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear.
