A 10-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Sunday night after being hit by a police car at an intersection in Brooklyn, according to the NYPD.
Police say the girl “darted out” into Mother Gaston Boulevard at New Lots Avenue in Brownsville and the patrol car, headed east on New Lots Avenue, hit her as it passed through the intersection. Authorities say the crossing light signaled for the girl not to walk.
The cruiser didn't have its lights or siren on when the girl was hit.
The 10-year-old was taken to Kings County Hospital and is expected to survive, police say. The officer was taken to Jamaica Hospital for evaluation.
