Police have identified two New York City women whose bodies were found floating in the East River and in Newton Creek in the last two days.
On Tuesday morning, the body of 50-year-old Haydee Rivera of Brooklyn was found floating in the East River near North 5th Street and Kent Avenue in Williamsburg, not far from the ferry stop, police said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The following morning, the body of 69-year-old Elba Santiago of Queens, who had been reported missing by her husband Tuesday afternoon, was found floating in the Newton Creek near Metropolitan Avenue Bridge and Grand Street in East Williamsburg. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The medical examiner will determine a cause of death for each of the women.
