Police officers rescued a baby deer that had fallen into icy waters on Long Island Thursday.
The fawn was spotted by officers from the Suffolk County Marine Bureau 30 yards from the shore near the Davis Park Marina on Fire Island just after 1 p.m.
Authorities say the officers pulled the baby deer out of the water and onto their boat. The animal was not moving and appeared to be in shock. It was unclear how the animal ended up in the water.
The officers covered the baby deer with a blanket and brought it to shore. As they tried to dry off the fawn, police say a family of deer approached and began licking the animal, who was soon up and moving.
After feeding the fawn some popcorn, police say it ran off with the other deer.
