At least 12 people, including two firefighters, were hurt in a high-rise apartment fire that required 33 units and 140 firefighters to put out, the FDNY says.
Their injuries were not considered serious. The fire started just before midnight Wednesday on the 17th floor of the Schomburg Plaza apartments on Fifth Avenue in East Harlem.
The fire extended to the18th floor and caused heavy smoke throughout the building, the FDNY said. The blaze was under control before 1:30 a.m.
No one was seriously injured and the seven who sustained minor injuries were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Authorities say the fire started in a hard-wired electric heater and spread. It was ruled accidental.
