One person died and six other people were injured when a van overturned in Queens Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
The van overturned on 21st Street in Astoria at about 4:45 p.m., officials said. Investigators say they think the 45-year-old driver, Anthony Boyd, had a medical problem that led him off the road. He was pronounced dead shortly after the crash.
Five other passengers in the van, including a 10-year-old and a baby, were trapped after it overturned and were hospitalized with injuries. A bystander hit with debris was also hospitalized with less serious injuries, police said.
"It was pretty bad, there was just blood all over the place,” said Deja Daniels, who saw the crash.
The van also hit a fire hydrant and ripped it out of the sidewalk, according to witnesses.
